ABOUT THE ARTIST...
Mike Cope is an award-winning cartoonist and artist educator.
His humorous cartoons have been published locally, nationally, and internationally in books, magazines, newspapers, and websites. As a freelance artist, he has created comics, illustrations, storyboards, and animations for a variety of clients, from commercial advertising to educational entertainment. He is always interested in working on new projects that are fun and engaging—especially for kids!
Mike loves inspiring others to draw and be creative. Since 1996, he has facilitated hundreds of cartooning and animation workshops to thousands of students at libraries, schools, community centres, and special events. He has been awarded multiple arts education grants by the Ontario Arts Council (OAC) and was the recipient of the Ontario Arts Foundation Artist Educator Award for 2022. Throughout the year, he teaches animation classes to kids, teens, and adults at the Dundas Valley School of Art (DVSA).
Mike is a member of the National Cartoonists Society (NCS); the Canadian Society of Children’s Authors, Illustrators and Performers (CANSCAIP); and the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT). He is a graduate of Sheridan College (Art Fundamentals Certificate + 2 Years Classical Animation), McMaster University (Combined Honours B.A. Anthropology & Multimedia), and Brock University (B.Ed. Technological Education).
He lives in Ancaster, Ontario (Canada) with his family.
