Brain Power is a MADD Canada elementary school program geared to students in grades 4-6 that I worked on in collaboration with MJM Media in Hamilton, Ontario. My roles & responsibilities on this project included: cartoon character design & animation, logo design, storyboarding and illustrating additional animation-ready artwork. The DVD’s runtime is approximately 27-minutes, sample clips are shown here for portfolio purposes only.
The first video (above) highlights the cartoon brain who interacted and communicated through pantomime. This 2D animated character was combined with live action footage of the human host (Canadian singer & songwriter, Jordan Francis) filmed at Corus Entertainment in Toronto, Ontario. Brain Power was the first live-action/animation hybrid video production that MJM Media and I created together. We also combined animated cartoon characters with a live actor for MADD’s television PSA “Don’t Mix Weed, Alcohol and Driving.”
The second video (above) highlights some of the additional animation-ready artwork that I created for Brain Power, including the production’s logo design and educational cartoon illustrations. Segments shown are: Brain Power intro & title screen, emotional brain development (narrated by Dr. Jean M. Clinton, McMaster University), and MADD’s Safe Ride in 5—designed as an animated comic strip. The animations of my cartoon illustrations for this second video were done by MJM Media’s talented Senior Editor, Bill Crocker.
